Tokusen medicated plaster contains ingredient that renders its analgesic effect. Main ingredient is methyl salicylate.

However, additional ingredients such as camphor, thymol and menthol, as well as burneol and terpene give it a rubefacient like effect, ie burning sensation upon application.
